Top Sunday Night Comedy Shows in London

A comedy show is an easy way to end the weekend: it starts early enough, finishes in good time for work on Monday, and gives you something to laugh about on the way home. If you want stand-up in central London on a Sunday, JK Comedy Club runs Sunday night comedy at 8PM in Covent Garden every week.

This guide covers how to plan a Sunday comedy night, what our Sunday show is like, and other Sunday options at clubs across London.

Planning a Sunday comedy night

Timing. The Sunday evening shows in this guide start between 7:30PM and 8PM and run for about 90 minutes, so you are usually out by around 9:30PM.

Eat first. Book a table nearby for an hour or two before the show, or choose a venue with its own bar and food so you can eat on site.

Getting home. The Night Tube runs only on Friday and Saturday nights, so on a Sunday check the time of your last train home on the TfL Journey Planner before you set off.

Book ahead. Booking online means you know you have a seat and what the evening will cost.

JK Comedy Club’s Sunday show

Our Sunday show is at our Covent Garden comedy club, at Arboretum, 2A Charing Cross Road, two minutes from Leicester Square station. It starts at 8PM, doors open an hour earlier at 7PM, and the show runs for about 90 minutes.

Arboretum is our largest room, with around 200 seats and its own full bar, so you can arrive at 7PM, get a drink and something to eat, and choose your seats. Seating is unreserved, so arriving early gives you the most choice.

Every show has a host and a line-up of professional comedians, and the bill changes each week. You can read what audiences say in our reviews, and the Sunday night comedy page has upcoming dates and the current price.

Angel Comedy on a Sunday

Angel Comedy runs free stand-up shows seven nights a week at its Islington venues, The Bill Murray on Queen’s Head Street and the Camden Head on Camden Walk, both near Angel station. Its October 2026 listings also included Sunday afternoon and early-evening work-in-progress shows at The Bill Murray, where comedians try out new hour-long shows. It is a relaxed pub setting, so it suits a low-key end to the weekend.

If you are in Covent Garden on another night of the week, Top Secret Comedy Club has two rooms nearby, on Drury Lane and Kingsway.

The Comedy Store Players

For something different from stand-up, The Comedy Store near Piccadilly Circus, which has been running since 1979, hosts the Comedy Store Players on Sunday evenings. The show is improvised comedy built from audience suggestions, with scenes and songs made up on the spot. In October 2026 its Sunday listings started at 7:30PM, with doors, bar and diner open from 6:30PM.

Further afield

Backyard Comedy Club at 231 Cambridge Heath Road in Bethnal Green describes itself as the largest purpose-built professional comedy club in London. It serves hot food and drinks, which makes it easy to turn a show into a full evening. Check its listings for Sunday dates.

How to choose a Sunday show

  • Stand-up or improv? Stand-up gives you a series of comedians with prepared sets. Improv is made up on the spot from audience suggestions, so no two shows are alike.

  • Free or ticketed? Free shows are a good way to try live comedy at no cost and to see comedians working on new material. A ticket gives you a confirmed place at a set start time.

  • Central or local? A central show is easy to reach from most of London and from main-line stations. A club near home means a shorter trip back on a Sunday night.

  • Bar and food? If you want to eat at the venue, check what the club serves before you book.

Bank holiday weekends

When the Monday after is a bank holiday, a Sunday night out is easier to fit in. Our guide to bank holiday comedy nights in London has ideas for those weekends. Check show dates before you book, as schedules can change over holidays.

What to expect on the night

Arrive at the doors time shown on your ticket. At our Sunday show, doors open at 7PM. Most clubs have unreserved seating, so earlier arrivals have more choice.

Most comedy shows run for about 90 minutes. Have your ticket ready on your phone, and bring photo ID: every JK Comedy Club show is for over-18s only.

Our Covent Garden room, like all JK Comedy Club rooms, is reached by stairs and has no step-free access. Email [email protected] before booking if you have access needs and we will advise. Check access with any other club before you book.

How to book

Book JK Comedy Club’s Sunday show on the Sunday night comedy page. Groups of up to 10 can book online; for more than 10, email [email protected] with your date and numbers before booking. Tickets are non-refundable, but you can transfer to another show or take a voucher if you can no longer attend; see the refund policy.

For other clubs, book through their official websites and check their refund terms before you pay.
