Who we are
This website, jkcomedyclub.co.uk, and the JK Comedy Club shows are run by JK COMEDY CLUB LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16937455), registered office 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy, registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under number ZC201372. You can contact us about anything in it at [email protected].
What we collect and where it comes from
- When you book a ticket – your name, email address and the details of your booking (show, date, number of tickets). Payment is taken by the ticketing platform you book through; we never see or store your card details. Most tickets are sold through Ticket Tailor; if you book through another ticketing platform, that platform passes us the same booking details.
- When you book on this website while Ticket Tailor’s checkout is down – we may sell tickets ourselves through a payment form from Stripe, our payment provider, shown inside this website. Stripe collects your email address and your card details; we never see your card details. We use your email address only to send you your ticket, once, from our own mailbox ([email protected], on Google Workspace); our booking record does not keep it, though a copy of that ticket email stays in the mailbox’s sent items, like any email we send. We keep the name you give for the door list, the number of tickets, the amount paid, your booking reference and the show, so that we can admit you and handle a refund.
- When you join our mailing list, enter a competition or send us an enquiry – the details you give us, such as your name, email address and message.
- When you join the waiting list for a sold-out show – your name, your email address, which show you are waiting for and when you joined. This is separate from our mailing list: joining it does not subscribe you to anything.
- When you ask us for a Dinner & Comedy package – your name, email address and phone number, which package you want, the date, the show time, how many are coming, whether it is a birthday or a work night, and anything else you tell us. There is also a box for dietary requirements and allergies: an allergy says something about your health, so that box is optional, it is yours to fill in or leave empty, and anything you put in it is used for one thing only – telling the restaurant what they need to know to feed your party safely. If you would rather not write it down, leave it blank and tell us on the phone instead.
- When you ask us for a private event – your name, email, phone number, optional company, date and time, guest count, venue and layout preferences, food and drink requests, total budget and confirmation of the minimum, callback preference and event notes. We use the budget to check that a private event is suitable before accepting a callback request. If you use your own venue, we ask for its address and available equipment. Please do not include guest health or allergy information in this form.
- When you visit this website – technical and usage data (pages viewed, device and browser type, approximate location, and how you reached the site), collected by cookies and similar technologies only with your consent, and counted anonymously without cookies otherwise (see Cookies below).
- When you come to a show – we photograph and film our shows, and parts of the audience are in shot, so a photo or clip may show your face and pick up your voice.
- When you leave a public review on Google or another review platform, we can see it there, and we may quote it on this website.
- If you perform at our shows – see If you perform at our shows below.
- If you list your own show with us – see If you list your own show with us below.
How we use your data and our legal grounds
- To fulfil your booking – confirming it, admitting you to the show, and telling you if a show changes or is cancelled. If you book more than 10 tickets in one order, we may email you our group guidelines for the night before the show. Legal ground: performance of our contract with you.
- To email you about our shows. If you have bought a ticket from us we may email you about similar shows and offers, unless you tell us not to; if you signed up to our mailing list we email you because you asked us to. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in promoting our shows to people who have come to them (with an opt-out on every message), or your consent where you signed up directly.
- To tell you if seats come back for a show on our waiting list – if tickets for the show you are waiting for become available again, our manager may send you one email with the link to book, telling people in the order they joined. We record when we emailed you. Nobody else can see the list except our manager and director on our private manager page. Legal ground: your consent, given by joining; you can withdraw it at any time by emailing us and we will take you off the list.
- To say sorry if no seats came back – if you joined the waiting list and we never had seats for you, the morning after the show we write you one email to say sorry, with a discount code for another of our shows and the next dates with seats. Our manager or director reads it before it is sent. It is the only other email the waiting list can bring you, and it does not add you to our mailing list. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in making it up to someone who tried to book with us, which the waiting-list form tells you about when you join; if you would rather not get it, email us and we will take you off the list.
- To answer your enquiries and deal with any complaint or dispute. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in running the business and responding to you.
- To arrange a Dinner & Comedy package – to come back to you by email or phone, to hold your table with the restaurant and your seats at the show, and to confirm the price. We pass the restaurant what it needs to seat and feed your party: the date, the time, the number of people, a contact for the booking, and any dietary requirements or allergies you have told us about. The restaurant decides for itself how it handles what we pass on. Legal ground: taking steps at your request before entering a contract, and then performing it. For anything you tell us about an allergy or a medical diet, we rely on your explicit consent, given by choosing to write it in that box; you can change or withdraw it by emailing us, though we cannot undo what has already been passed to the restaurant.
- To understand how the website is used and to measure our advertising, so we can improve both. Legal ground: your consent, given through the cookie banner, for cookies, visit recordings and advertising measurement; our legitimate interest in knowing how many people use the website and which pages work, for the anonymous visit counting described under Cookies below, which you can switch off there.
- To understand repeat bookings – we compare Ticket Tailor bookings using email addresses to measure how often customers book again. Email addresses are replaced with temporary coded identifiers during calculation; internal reports contain totals only. We do not retain a separate customer profile from that measurement or use it to contact you – recognising our regulars, below, is a separate purpose. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in understanding and improving our shows.
- To recognise our regulars – we count separate paid shows booked through Ticket Tailor using your email address. Two shows in the rolling 365 days makes a regular, counted after the show ends, regardless of group size. Free, fully refunded and cancelled bookings do not qualify. If you qualify and you are subscribed to our emails, our system automatically creates a personal £20 voucher code for you in Ticket Tailor and emails it to you through Mailchimp, our email provider, at most once per 365 days. A further voucher also requires two new paid shows booked since your previous reward. To deliver the voucher, its code, expiry date and your ticket count are added to your existing Mailchimp record; the code includes your first name and lasts a year. Not receiving one has no effect on you, and no decision with legal or similarly significant effect is made about you. The list is visible only to the two people who sign in to our private manager page; what we keep is a coded marker recording that a voucher was sent and when, and the code itself, so that you are not sent two – never a separate profile of you. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in recognising returning customers (and, for the email itself, the same ground as marketing emails above – use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of it and we will stop).
- To ask our regulars how we could be better – from the same Ticket Tailor count, we look at who has been to the most separate nights in the last year, and a member of our team may write to a small number of them by hand to ask what brings them back, what nearly stopped them, and the one thing they would change. Nothing is sent automatically, we are not selling you anything, and you are free to ignore it. If you reply, we keep what you wrote so we can read the answers together and act on them, stored against a coded marker rather than your name or address; we do not keep a phone number, and a reply is deleted with the rest of your data if you ask us to erase it. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in improving our shows.
- To know who has been to which show – we keep our own record of the shows you have booked for: your name, email address, and for each booking the show date and time, venue, ticketing platform and number of tickets. It is filled in each day from the booking details the ticketing platforms pass us, and from the show tags in our mailing list; we also keep one private copy of our mailing list (your email address, name, subscription status and tags) so that this record survives if we change email provider. We use it to see who came to a show, who comes back and who has not been for a while, so that we can plan shows and offers; it is kept on our own server, visible only to our managers, and is never shared or used to make a decision about you. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in understanding our audience and promoting our shows to people who have come to them.
- To manage your private-event enquiry – we keep your contact details, company and event requirements, the progress of your enquiry, our notes and next steps in our own enquiry system. It is accessible to our manager and director through our private manager page. We may record a date to review a possible repeat booking and any request not to contact you; recording a date does not subscribe you to marketing or send a message. The original email stays in our email system. When the website accepts your enquiry, it alerts our manager to call you or arrange your preferred time. The Telegram alert contains a random enquiry reference and a link to our inbox, without your name, email, phone number or event notes. If nobody has recorded calling you back by nine the next morning, our manager gets one reminder a day carrying only that enquiry's number, the day it arrived and the date you asked about – still without your name, email or phone number – and nothing is sent to you. Legal ground: taking steps at your request before a contract, performing it, and our legitimate interest in managing enquiries and respecting contact preferences.
- To promote our shows with photos and clips – footage and photos of our shows, which may include members of the audience, are used by us, the comedians on the bill and media outlets covering our shows, on social media, our website and elsewhere. By attending a show you agree that you may appear in them. If you would rather not be recorded, tell the showrunner when you arrive and we will seat you out of shot. If you appear in something we have posted and want it taken down, email us and we will remove it. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in promoting our shows, with notice in our ticket terms and at the door.
- To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping accounting records. Legal ground: legal obligation.
We do not use your data to make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with the service providers we need to run the business, and only for the purposes above:
- ticketing platforms that sell and manage bookings (including Ticket Tailor);
- Stripe, our payment provider, which takes payment (and may email you its receipt) when you book through the payment form on this website (Stripe also processes card payments for bookings made through Ticket Tailor);
- the venue hosting your show, where it needs a guest list to admit you;
- the restaurant in your Dinner & Comedy package, where you have asked us to arrange one – the booking details above, including any dietary requirements or allergies you gave us;
- our email service provider, used to send booking-related and marketing emails (Mailchimp);
- analytics and advertising services (Google and PostHog): with cookies where you have consented to them, and PostHog for anonymous visit counting without cookies where you have not;
- the providers that host our website, email and internal business tools, including Telegram for the limited enquiry alert described above.
These providers act on our instructions under contracts that protect your data. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone else for their own marketing. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.
The one exception is photos and clips of our shows: we share these with the comedians on the bill, who may post them to promote themselves, and with media outlets covering our shows, as described under To promote our shows with photos and clips above.
International transfers
Some of the providers above store data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data-protection law, such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Booking records: for as long as we are required to keep accounting records (currently six years after the end of the financial year of the booking).
- Our record of the shows you have booked for: while you keep coming to our shows; we will set and publish a fixed limit, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
- Mailing-list data: until you unsubscribe, after which we keep only the minimum needed to make sure we do not email you again.
- Waiting list for a sold-out show: deleted automatically the day after that show. An email we write or send you from it is kept in our mailbox like any other email.
- Bookings made through the payment form on this website: the door-list copy we keep (name, number of tickets, amount, reference and show) is deleted automatically 14 days after the show. Stripe keeps its own payment record, including your email address, as our payment provider and to meet its own legal duties; our accounting records of the sale follow the booking-record rule above.
- Enquiries, including Dinner & Comedy and private-event requests: for up to two years after our last contact, unless a dispute means we need them longer. What you told us about a dietary requirement or an allergy is kept only in that email thread and goes with it.
- Our separate private-event enquiry system removes inactive enquiries that did not become bookings after two years without contact, unless an event or follow-up is specifically scheduled. We retain only coded identifiers needed to prevent a deleted enquiry being imported again or to respect a request not to be contacted. We keep up to fourteen daily recovery copies. Records of agreed bookings follow the booking-record rule above; we review these separately.
- Show photos and clips: kept in our archive and on our social media for as long as they are useful for promoting our shows, or until you ask us to remove one you appear in.
- Google website analytics: retained by Google for up to 26 months.
- PostHog analytics: up to one year; PostHog session recordings: up to 30 days.
If you perform at our shows
This part is for comedians, MCs, showrunners and barkers who apply for, or are booked on, our shows.
- What we collect – your name and stage name, email address and phone number; a headshot; links to a video of your material and to your website or social media; a short bio and your credits; the shows you apply for, when, and whether we booked you; your answers to any questions on an application form; the fees we pay you; and the reports our showrunner and attending show manager write after each show you play, including performance ratings, whether you performed or dropped out, and any dropout reason. You give us most of this yourself, through our application pages or the booking platform and forms we use. We remove the hidden location and camera data from a headshot when you upload it.
- How we use it – to consider your applications, book you, contact you about your spots and pay you (legal ground: taking steps to enter a contract with you, and then performing it); to assess show quality and inform future booking decisions using those reports (legal ground: our legitimate interest in running better shows); and to promote the shows you play, with your name and headshot on our website and listings, as performers expect (legal ground: our legitimate interest in promoting our shows).
- Who sees it – our team; the showrunner of a show you are booked on, who receives the phone numbers of that night’s performers; and the providers that host our booking tools, acting on our instructions. Your name and headshot are published with the shows you play. Independent show-manager ratings and notes are restricted to the director and manager.
- Show photos – our showrunner photographs each act and the MC on stage, and takes one photo of the full room, which may show audience members, and our team photographs acts and the audience with a camera. The photos are uploaded through a private link to our Google Drive, filed by show and by comedian, with the hidden location and camera data removed (a photo waits on our own server only until it is filed, and is deleted there after about two days), and we may use them on our Google listings, our website (including on the comedian’s own profile page) and our social media to promote our shows (legal ground: our legitimate interest in promoting our shows). To have a photo of you taken down, email [email protected].
- How long we keep it – your applications, your answers and our record of emails to you: two years; your profile (your details and headshot): while you are on our roster, or until you ask us to delete it; payment records: six years, as the law requires.
If you list your own show with us
Comedians can ask us to sell their own solo show at one of our rooms through the form at jkcomedyclub.co.uk/list-your-show/. It asks for your act name, an email address, the show’s title, date, time, room, ticket price and a short description, and optionally a link to your own ticket page. The form creates nothing on its own: it sends one email to our info@ mailbox, where our manager reviews it in our private manager page and replies to the email address you gave. Nothing about your show is public until our manager approves it; if approved, your act name, the show’s title, description, date, time, room and price are published on its own selling page and on the ticketing platforms we sell through, as for any show we run. We never visit the ticket link you give us from our systems; it is shown to our manager only. Legal ground: taking steps at your request before entering an agreement with you to sell your show, and then performing it. The email is kept with our other enquiries (up to two years after our last contact), and a show that goes on sale follows the booking-record rule above. After your show, we settle our share of its ticket money with you: we invoice you for what you owe us, or record what we owe you and pay it. The record holds your act name and the show’s date, room, the tickets and ticket money we sold and that you sold yourself, the ticket price, the showrunning fee, the amount owed and which way, and whether it has been paid. Only our director and our manager can see it, on our private systems. We keep it for six years as a financial record. To correct or withdraw a listing, email [email protected].
Public booking research
We use public comedy-club listings to research acts and plan our bookings. We record stage names, show dates and times, venues, published billing order and roles, source links, and ticket prices and sold-out information where available. We compare names with our existing performer roster and other public-lineup records. In the Top Secret archive only, an estimate of who was the MC is clearly labelled as an inference. Big Belly roles are recorded only where published. Where a listing shows an act running their own show, we may invite an act to put that show on with us; a member of our team decides whether to ask and sends the invitation themselves. We do not harvest performers’ contact details or make automated booking decisions. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in researching and planning our shows.
These records are held for JK’s use in private Google Sheets and, for the Big Belly historical backfill, files on the owner’s computer. They are not published or shared outside JK and the providers that store them for us. The historical archives currently have no fixed deletion period, pending a retention review. To correct an entry or object to this use of your information, email [email protected].
If you run a website, guide or listing we contact
We email editors and site contacts at publications, guides, student unions and listing sites whose pages already list London comedy clubs, to ask them to add JK Comedy Club. We use the contact address your site publishes on its own pages: someone on our team types it in, or our system reads your site’s home, contact and about pages and takes the address published there, preferring a general editorial address and using a named person’s work address only when the site publishes no general one. We never guess or build an address, buy contact lists or use paid lookup services. We record the site, the address, the page we found it on, when we wrote and what happened (sent, replied or bounced).
Each site gets one email and at most one follow-up, and only if nobody has replied; a bounced email stops it for good. If your page already lists us and a later check finds what it says about us out of date, or its link to us gone, we may write once more to ask for a correction, using the same contact address; a member of our team reviews and sends that email. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in asking to be included on pages that recommend comedy clubs. These records are kept in a private Google Sheet and our info@ mailbox, and are not shared outside JK and the providers that store them for us. If you would rather not hear from us, reply or email [email protected] and we will mark your site so it is never contacted again.
Your rights
Under UK data-protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you; to have it corrected or deleted; to restrict or object to how we use it (including an absolute right to object to direct marketing); to receive it in a portable format; and, where we rely on your consent, to withdraw that consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to resolve it with you first.
Cookies
Cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work (for example, remembering your cookie choice or completing a booking) are always set. Analytics and advertising cookies – used to measure how the site is used and how our advertising performs – are set only if you choose Accept on the cookie banner. If you choose Reject, they are not set. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the ticket checkout is provided by Ticket Tailor and sets the cookies it needs to complete your booking. The interactive Google map on our venue pages is provided by Google Maps and loads on the page; we have checked that it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, though Google receives your IP address and the map requests, as with any Google-hosted content. Any embedded YouTube video loads only after you choose Accept or click to play it; until then you see a video preview. If you book through the payment form on this website while Ticket Tailor’s checkout is down, that form is loaded from Stripe (js.stripe.com) only when you open it, and Stripe sets cookies and collects information about your device to detect and prevent fraud; these are strictly necessary for the payment and are set whatever you chose on the cookie banner. Stripe explains them at stripe.com/cookie-settings. Each page also asks Ticket Tailor’s public status page (status.tickettailor.com, hosted on Vercel) whether its checkout is working, so that when it is down we can show you the door price and other places to book instead; that request carries no cookie and nothing about you, though, as with any web request, the status page receives your IP address.
If you choose Accept, we also use PostHog, an EU-hosted analytics service, to see how visitors use the site – pages viewed, clicks, scrolling and device type – and to record a replay of some visits: a sample of visits to the site, a larger share of visits to our main landing page, and any visit in which something looks like it went wrong (for example, repeated clicking on something that does not respond). Recordings mask anything typed into a form and never include the Ticket Tailor checkout. PostHog also receives our Ticket Tailor booking records without the buyer's name, email address, phone number or any answer given at checkout, so we can count bookings. If you accepted and then book, the checkout carries PostHog’s random visit number into your Ticket Tailor booking, so we can see which of our pages led to it; nothing about you is added, and without Accept no booking is linked to a visit. We do not tell PostHog who you are.
If you choose Reject, or do not answer the banner, we set no analytics cookies, store nothing on your device and make no recording. We still count the visit anonymously with PostHog, to see how our website is used: which pages are viewed and how they are used, never who you are or where you are. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal (a “do not track me” setting offered by several browsers), we do not count your visit at all unless you choose Accept.
We sometimes show two versions of a page – a different heading, photo or button, never a different price – to learn which one visitors find clearer. The version is picked at random each time a page loads. Nothing is stored on your device to do this and you are not remembered from one page to the next. If you have chosen Accept, the version shown is included in the Google Analytics measurement described above, so we can count ticket bookings per version; it is a short label such as “b” and says nothing about you.
With your consent, we also remember the source of your visit in browser storage for up to 30 days, so a later ticket purchase can be attributed to the advertising or link that brought you here. Rejecting or withdrawing consent removes this returning-visit record.
Children
Our shows and this website are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
