Start With Something Booked, Then Let the Night Happen
Covent Garden has no shortage of places to eat and drink, and that is exactly the problem — an evening with nothing booked usually turns into half an hour of standing on a pavement deciding. One fixed point solves it, and a comedy show is the cheapest fixed point in the area.
We run live stand-up seven nights a week at Arboretum, 2A Charing Cross Road. Prices match the night: Monday £8, Tuesday & Wednesday £10, Thursday & Sunday £12, Friday £15, Saturday £15–£17. Every show runs 90 minutes, so it anchors the evening without eating it.
With 4,500+ Google reviews at 4.9★ across our venues, it is also one of the safer bets in a part of London where a lot of the evening options are aimed at people who will only visit once.
How an Evening Here Runs
- Eat first, nearby. Chinatown, Leicester Square and Soho are all a few minutes' walk from the door, and the venue has a full bar of its own if you would rather skip straight to a drink.
- Doors open an hour before the show (30 minutes before the Friday 9PM; 30 minutes before the Saturday 9PM). Monday at 8PM (doors 7PM), Tuesday at 8PM (doors 7PM), Wednesday at 8PM (doors 7PM), Thursday at 8PM (doors 7PM), Friday at 7PM, 8PM & 9PM (doors 6PM, 7PM & 8:30PM), Saturday at 5PM, 7PM, 8PM & 9PM (doors 4PM, 6PM, 7PM & 8:30PM) and Sunday at 8PM (doors 7PM). Seating is unreserved and first come, first served, so arriving early is how you get the seats you want.
- 90 minutes of live stand-up. A host and a run of comedians, a different bill every week — TV names, Edinburgh Fringe acts and comedians working up new material.
- The rest of the night is still ahead of you. You come out into the West End with the bars still open, Trafalgar Square at the end of the street and the whole of Soho behind you.
Planning something specific? There are pages for a date night, a group night out, and dinner and comedy with a partner restaurant booked for you.
Where It Is
JK Comedy Club Covent Garden is at Arboretum, 2A Charing Cross Road, WC2H 0HF — 2 mins from Leicester Square tube, at the foot of Charing Cross Road.
Finding the door: Go in through the Arboretum entrance on Charing Cross Road — in the Penway Place building directly opposite the National Portrait Gallery, between the Garrick Theatre and St Martin's Place. There are security guards outside Arboretum; that's routine, so walk on in past them. Once inside, the comedy room is to the right of the reception desk.
What Else Is Worth Doing Nearby
Everything below is walkable from the door, so it all fits either side of a show:
- The National Portrait Gallery is directly opposite us, and the National Gallery is on Trafalgar Square at the end of the street. Both are free.
- St Martin's Lane and the Strand theatres are the other direction — if you want a matinee and comedy in the same day, this is the corner to do it in.
- Chinatown for dinner, which stays open later than almost anything else in the area.
- Soho for drinks afterwards — Old Compton Street and the bars off Dean Street are a few minutes' walk.
- Covent Garden Piazza and Neal's Yard for the earlier part of the evening, before the shops shut.
